Looking to further diversify and empower the English activities in our school, the English Panel of SMKA Pahang is now on a mission to bring up a team of debaters. To that end, on Monday, 22 August 2017, we had organised a mock debate involving 8 students who showed interest in debating.
The mock debate which follows the British Parliamentary format took place in Sibawaih Language Lab and was participated by form 4 students Zaid, Abid Danial, Ziyad, Harith, Afiqah Najwa, Atikah, Iman Fariza and Wardati Syahirah, with the boys acting as the Government while the girls as the Opposition. The motion chosen for the debate was: 'This house believes that driving age should be raised'.
Following the debate, the judges consisting of Madam Farah, Mr. Najib, Miss Amalina and led by the Head of Panel, Madam Faziyah, had selected the four best speakers to make up the school debate team. They are:
- Wardati Syahirah
- Iman Fariza
- Ziyad
- Harith
Wardati from 4 Ibnu Sina was also unanimously chosen as the best overall speaker.
The team which is now being trained by experienced debater Miss Amalina will inshaAllah see their first real debating action in the upcoming Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar Debate Championship 2017 (KTJDC 2017) on 16th and 17th of September.
